3D Technology Checklist

This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use our checklist below to ensure that you have everything you need. If you have any questions or want to learn more about 3D, we invite you to visit 3D 101--our center for everything 3D. To get started with 3D, please ensure that you have:

A Display

The first--and most important--item you'll need is a 3D-ready display--whether it be a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays usually have a higher processing power than older models as they need to display one image for each eye to create a 3D effect.

A Source

While your display is ready for 3D playback, you still need a device to read 3D content (i.e., a movie or a show). This source can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3.

Content

In order to watch 3D, you will need to get some 3D content. This 3D content will come from the source mentioned above in the form of a 3D program, movie, or game. Please ensure that your 3D movies are in the Blu-ray 3D format, as this new format will provide the best 3D experience.

3D Glasses

All 3D HDTVs on the market require Active Shutter glasses to create the 3D effect. You will need to buy one pair of glasses for each viewer. Also make sure that the Active Shutter glasses you buy are compatible with your display--for example, buy the glasses from the same brand as your 3D HDTV.

HDMI Cable

To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a hgh-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation--with bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second)--will be able to carry the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

Panasonic TC-P54VT25
The VIERA VT25 Series Full HD 3D Plasmas create an all new viewing experience by putting you inside the action and creating a new world of TV viewing realism.

Full HD 3D Realism

Frame Sequential Technology

The method used to send left-eye and right-eye 3D images viewers is key to the 3D image quality, and Full HD 3D uses what's called Frame Sequential technology. The VT25 series plasma display panel allows images for each eye to be alternately reproduced at the rate of 60 frames per second (fps), making a total fps for both eyes. Viewers watch the images through high-precision 3D eyewear, which open and close the left and right shutters in synchronization with the alternating images. As a result, a separate 1920 x 1080 full-HD image is sent to each eye. This addresses the image quality problems and blurring that were common to earlier 3D systems, and creates sharp, crisp 3D images.

3D Display Optimization

The Frame Sequential Technology requires images to be displayed at 1/120 of a second--twice as fast as ordinary full-HD images. If the luminescence time for each frame were simply shortened, the screen brightness would be lowered. To solve this problem, panasonic shortened the luminescence time and raised the luminescence intensity, to keep things bright and detailed. Additionally, newly developed fast-decay R and G phosphors reduce the afterimage time to 1/3, to ensure 3D images are displayed with no visible afterimage.

Panasonic 3D Eyewear

Included with each VT25-series VIERA 3D TV is one pair of 3D eyewear necessary to view the 3D content. To share the experience with others, additional 3D Eyewear may be purchased separately.

Stellar Video and Audio Performance

Infinite Black Panel Pro

With Infinite Black Panel Pro, VIERA HDTVs are able to display extremely robust blacks. A new panel and improvements to the cell discharge area dramatically increase contrast when viewing in brightly lit locations. And reducing the electrical pre-discharge that causes graying has greatly enhanced black gradation. As a result, deep, rich blacks are displayed in virtually any viewing area, from living rooms to bedrooms. Even in dark film scenes, clothing textures, individual strands of hair, and other fine details are clearly reproduced.

The Real Film Experience

This display is THX certified, meaning it reproduces film images as the filmmakers intended them. To receive THX certification, TVs undergo stringent tests to determine, for example, whether the exact same brightness and color are displayed at all screen locations, and whether black levels satisfy standard criteria. VIERA meets the high standards set by the THX Certified Display Program.

Crisp, Clear Moving Pictures With 600Hz Sub-Field Drive

600Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1,080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into dots. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects.

Panasonic Video Technologies

Panasonic offers a wealth of video technology with their displays, and the TC-P54VT25 is no exception. x.v.Color is the new standard in high-definition color, which delivers up to 80 percent more color than standard HDTV for breathtaking realism and vivid, natural colors. 3D Color Management optimizes all colors to deliver pictures that are beautiful to the human eye. 24p Cinematic Playback displays movies in natural, cinematic motion, allowing you to experience theater-like viewing at home. And gaming mode optimizes all settings for quick response and great graphics when paired with your gaming system.

Solid Audio

The TC-P54VT25 boasts three speakers to deliver great sound (when you aren't listening through your home theater system, that is). Two full-range drivers and a woofer for the low-end deliver 30 Watts of crystal-clear sound. BBE's ViVA sound widening technology widens your stereo image, and a built-in surround effect makes things more immersive even without satellite speakers.

Connectivity and Convenience

Great Web Entertainment, Home Video Conferencing, and More

The age of the Internet TV is well underway, and VIERA Cast's assorted online content keeps getting better. In addition to the popular content such as YouTube and Picasa Web Albums, it now offers Pandora Internet Radio, movies streamed from Netflix (paid service), exciting sports from FOX Sports, tweeting web communications with Twitter, and even home video and audio conferencing with Skype (with the optional communication camera TY-CC10). It also provides USB terminals for a keyboard and Wireless LAN Adaptor.

VIERA VT25 Series VIERA Cast
Panasonic's VIERA Cast lets you access Internet content, from streaming movies to social networking.

Easy Viewing of Full-HD Photos and Videos

Thanks to Panasonic's VIERA Image Viewer, it's easy to view full-HD images off of SD cards. Watch and show your photos and motion images right after you take them. Simply insert an SD Memory Card into your VIERA HDTV to display photos and full-HD videos on the large screen. You can also choose from among 5 types of background music and 5 display effects. It's much more fun when you can view them on a large screen HDTV with family and friends. Throw some MP3s on that SD Card and you can also play them back, for a quick music solution.

Operation With a Single Remote

For those who own multiple Panasonic VIERA devices--VIERA Link allows interconnected operation of various AV devices using only the VIERA remote control, by simply connecting compatible devices to each other by an HDMI cable. The TC-P54VT25 is ready to integrate into your existing VIERA system.

VIERA Tools

Navigating your system's features is important, too. With the new VIERA Tools user interface, simply press a button on the remote control and icons such as the photos or movies from the menu screen. Now you can just select the one you want. This kind of easy operation means you have more fun and less hassle.

Customer Review :

Unbiased Tc-P54Vt25 54" 1080p Plasma 3D Tv chronicle : Panasonic VIERA TC-P54VT25 54-inch 1080p 3D Plasma HDTV, Black

First, let me state my wife and I work on Tv & motion pictures and consequently very single when it comes to having a good picture and sound. I've studied a collection of large format (50"+) Led Lcd & Plasma Flat screens for my living room. I can only equate it to car purchasing experiencing. Like most, I'm a true value shopper. High quality @ a super low price. I researched tons of buyer magazines and online experts including buyer comments. It didn't really reconcile the dilemma of too many choices. The old saying, "the more you know, the more you know you don't know" holds true. I'm not as Tv Tech savvy as a Best Buy Tv salesperson and still felt overwhelmed. That said, I understand Led Lcd Edge Lit is the "new rage" and Plasma is "fading fast," but I didn't want to get suckered into purchasing a screen just because thin is in or some "expert" told me this is for you. I was foolish and did just that. I went to Fry's, to buy an Lg 55" 9500 3/D for $1,500. A steal considering msrp is $4,999. Of course, it was "limited to stock on hand" and they were completely sold out. I met a very nice Samsung Rep, who was very helpful insight my needs and came home with a 55" Lcd/Led Edge Lit Samsung 7000. My wife took one look and said, "I don't like it." Nuff said.

The "value electronics 2010 Shootout" was the most helpful. The judging and chronicle by engineering experts & motion picture professionals backed up their top selections and rated them #1-6 with the specific technical reasons why. The thorough coverage of all the major brands will surprise you. Most people, including myself assume #1 would be priced way up there and not really a "consumer value." It's not true. I was leary of an purchasing on-line but Amazon addressed All of my concerns and offered a price that was too good to pass up. The Tv + 2 pair rechargeable 3D Glasses bundle and new Denon 5.1 amp and along with 4 Hdmi4.1 cables savings was ~ $1000.00 from the Samsung (which didn't even make the ratings!) and got the best screen per shootout results!
The only issue I have is the Tv only has One Audio Output. It's not a thorough Rca type connector. It's a Digital or optic Audio Output. For those not familiar with new audio technology, a special light emitting fiber optic audio cable is needed to carry the audio signal to the amplifier. If your amp is far away, it may be a serious issue for because I think digital optic cables stop @~ 20 Ft.

We are very happy with our choice. Good Luck!

If picture quality (pq) means the most to you, then read on...

Here are the results; pre is out of the box in Thx or movie mode/post is after Isf calibration
We exposed for the first time the following developments:

Joe Kane lent us his personally developed new test disc that has some test patterns that expose flaws never before seen. We had a way to diagnose errors in the color decoding and bit rate limitations of the 8 bit panels as well as incorrect processing to the 8 bit panel. Not only do these anomalies limit the expert calibrator, they also limit the out of box image quality.

Bill Schindler demonstrated how plasma technology enjoys the advantage over Lcd in 3D of being able to see an supplementary dimension the buyer can view from any side and enjoy a richer 3D experience, even while laying down.

One of Joel Silver's and Kevin Miller's call to performance was for higher bit rate panels. Currently all panels are no more than 8 bit and some don't process the full or permissible 8 bit signal. Joel was Skyped in on Panasonic 58" Vt25 while Kevin and Joel reviewed the .pdf presentation displayed on the other shoot-out panels. Joel showed and explained that Sharp owns 75% and Sony holds the remaining 25% stake in their Lcd plant and then discussed Panasonic's new glass manufacturing facilities. really approximately 1/2 trillion dollars of financial investments in the future of flat panels and great advancements in R&D and the manufacturing processes.

DeWayne, aka D-Nice, Kevin Miller and Ed Johnson reviewed and taught us what they look for in varied test patterns.

Robert Zohn called for a standards to be established, likely by Cea or other standards society to construct a recipe of measuring unlikeness ratio and have all manufacturer's issue only the approved unlikeness ratio standard. This way consumers can relay on this statistic when shopping. After all, this is the single most important attribute to deliver the best pq
1. Panasonic Tc-P58Vt25 3D plasma pre/post Isf calibration report

Don't select your next flat panel strictly based on who's in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place as they all approximately tied for 2nd

Sony has a better picture right on, but quality goes down rapidly when you move off-angle, some judges rated it #2, but the audiences voted in this order

3. Lg 55Lx9500 3D Lcd/Led Edge Lit pre/post Isf calibration record

4. Sony Kdl-55Nx810 3D Lcd/Led Edge Lit pre/post Isf calibration report

Don't count out the 5th and 6th place as they all approximately tied for 3rd and in a few ways had excellent attributes

When the audiences voted on the best picture quality Panasonic was the unimous winner. Voting on Lcd's split the votes between Sony and Lg
